Garden Perfume – Teodolinda 96 – Jaune Desprez – R. moschata umbrella

When Niso Fumagalli began his adventure in the world of roses, he inserted a special prize for Perfume, a feature that at that time was somewhat neglected by hybridizers. The first rose to be awarded in 1965 was from the Dutch Jan Lendeers and was named "Monza". She received as a prize the reproduction of the Crown of Queen Theodolinda. Unfortunately this rose is no longer in our Rose Garden, but many fragrant varieties are gathered in what we call "The Secret Garden of Perfumes", created by landscape architect Anna Furlani Pedoja, surrounded by high yew hedges. Among these, “Teodolinda 96” was created by Eng. Niso in 1988, a white rose with a stiff stem typical of HT, a full, fragrant flower.

On the other hand, the climber “Jaune Desprez” is very different, a noisette from 1830 which, like all the noisette, (created by the French hybridizers brothers Philippe and Louis Noisette) has   clusters of little yellow flowers, first cupped then open, with central petals curved on themselves and a sweet fruity scent.

On the arch in front of it climbs another particular rose, “Rosa moschata umbrella”: it is a late flowering botanical rose, it blooms from July to the end of autumn, with large clusters of white, simple, very fragrant flowers.
